It was GAME NIGHT! at Baker, and I thought this could make for a decent event to shoot. About 4 people showed up, and they really didn't show up. They just happened to be in the food court when the GAME NIGHT! started. This is about the only moment I caught. Everyone else was just blindly staring at the TVs. And for you big time Bobcat sports fans, that's OU quarterback Theo Scott playing the drums. Look for him next year, leading us to the Rose Bowl.

Came back to the parking lot to find this prize on my windshield. Super.

I could rant about parking services, but I'll spare you.

More Night Photography

>> Jan 27, 2008

Here are some more night photos for a class assigment, this time from along the Ohio River in Belpre, OH/Parkersburg, WV. I couldn't find any "public" areas along the river near this bridge, so I ended up in someone's backyard and set up my tripod and made some photos. A quick moving barge with lots of lights on it made things more interesting.

My hands still froze after I got done shooting. Wore 2 pair of gloves this time around. I will be looking for a job in the deep South when I graduate.

Athens at Night

>> Jan 23, 2008

This is from an assignment I'm working on for class. We have to make some frames at night and this one was a 30 second exposure. I wore gloves and my hands still went numb and hurt like heck. I think I have bad circulation.

Walk For The Homeless

>> Jan 20, 2008

Pretty good turnout at the annual Walk For the Homeless, considering it was absolutely freezing outside. I wanted to try something different, so I went up to the 5th story of the city parking garage and shot down on the walkers. When I imagined it before hand, I pictured it would be a sea of people marching down the street, but it turned out that everyone was on the sidewalk and they walked about 2 wide. Oh well.

Ohio vs Miami

I was fairly happy with how they turned out. It was my first time ever using my new camera and I spent the 2 hours before the game pouring through the manual and making sure I knew what buttons did what. Other than sitting in front of the pep band's bass drum, it was a pretty fun time.

One Small Step

>> Jan 9, 2008

The first thing I had to do this week for my photo class was to shoot 10 pictures. Any 10, there were no rules and they weren't expected to be anything special. "I don't care what you shoot, bring me 10 pictures of your bedroom. It really doesn't matter," said my teacher. We just needed some files to work with in Photoshop for Thursday. I ended up walking around Richland Ave and I saw this guy pumping gas into his huge tow truck. I walked by the Speedway a few times before getting the guts to go up and ask him if I could take his picture. Nothing special about the few photos I took of him, but I felt like I achieved something by talking to this unknown man. I'd never walked up to a random stranger and asked them if I could photograph them. I'm going to be doing a lot of this over the next weeks, months, years, etc etc, so it felt like a mini-achievement to get the first one out of the way.

I also learned how to do this in class on Tuesday:

And It Begins...

>> Jan 8, 2008

Excited, nervous, intimidated, determined- all are good adjectives to use to describe how I feel to be starting up in OU's photojournalism program. A year and a half removed from any photo classes, I'm ready to jump in and get started. I hope this enthusiasm never wanes.

This is from break. Someday, I will do a story on my Grandparents. 2 amazing people.
