Easter

Just some photos from around the home on Easter...

The Little Man with Gran and Gramps

Allie dug into her basket, then stole my Pull-n-Peels.

Candy companies need to make their chocolate bunnies less creepy looking.

Not sure why Easter was in March this year. No one I talked to really had an answer. So I googled it and this is what the internet tells me:
"Did you know the moon decides when Easter is celebrated? Easter always falls on the first Sunday after the first full moon following the spring equinox, which is March 21. March 22 is the earliest Easter can happen, April 25 the latest. Next year Easter will come even later — April 12."

Mark your calendars.

Quarter's over!

>> Mar 22, 2008

My first quarter as a photojournalism major has come and gone. I got an A on my final project on The Last Chance Corral, so that was nice. I worked my tail off, but it was still fun and rewarding. Here are a couple frames from the farm that didn't make it into the final edit.

I think I tone a lot of my images that aren't for class in B+W simply because I miss my old days with the Nikon FG and the darkroom. Other than that, I have no reason for these being in B+W, except on the 2nd one, because it was a bear to color correct. Everything I turned in was all color.

As I look at this frame, it looks a little dark, but it's late and I have clothes in the washer that need to go to the dryer, so I'm not fixing it. I do like the layering though. I live for depth and layers.

Time for spring break! Time to enjoy everything the exotic location of Dayton, OH has to offer.

More Horsin' Around

>> Mar 10, 2008

Here is some more from the Last Chance Corral.

Horses arrive at the Intensive Care Barn.

Victoria prepares an IV for a sick foal. (I must admit I did not know what a "foal" was before this. Shows you how much time I spend on farms).

The whole thing went pretty well, I think. I made about 4 or 5 visits. I shot a lot, I learned a lot and I stepped in a lot of poop.

Barack 'n Roll

>> Mar 3, 2008

Arcade Fire came to Nelsonville to play a show/promote the Obama campaign. Barack was down the road having a round table discussion or something at Hocking Community College. So, that means we have had Bill Clinton at the community center, Chelsea Clinton at Baker Center, Michelle Obama at the OU auditorium, Hillary Clinton 30 minutes away in Belpre, Obama in Nelsonville and a grammy award winning band come play a 450 seat venue. Awesome.

Heck of a show.

Don't Bring That Weak Tot Action

>> Mar 1, 2008

Jerome does not allow others to send it in. Only Jerome sends it in. Ask Bill Raftery.

I've taken a liking to shooting basketball at wider angles. I have THIS photo hanging in my room and I just love how much more of the action and emotions of other players that you can cram into a frame (even though you probably can't see what I'm talking about in the linked photo because it's so small). In that Michael Jordan photo, there are just so many things going on. Jordan taking the winning shot, the look in the Georgetown players' faces as the ball is being released, the GTown coaches throwing their hands up in frustration. It's jammed packed with great stuff going on. I just find it boring to shoot basketball really tight, because you see those same pictures every sports section you open.

Going into to Photo J, I thought sports would be one of my favorite things to photograph. That's still to be determined, but I like getting outside, interacting with people's everyday lives, moving around and getting different angles and just documenting life more than I enjoy sitting on an arena floor for 2 hours. I like shooting sports, but I think it isn't something I would really want to do exclusively. I always had this idea of just sitting at sporting events, taking in the great atmosphere and snapping away at the action. But I've discovered already that, even in little old Athens, there is so much more out there in this world that makes a better story than a sporting event.
