Spent some time at ABH Bluegrass Hideaway in Fitchersville, Ohio on Friday night. I shot a lot, collected some audio and video and had a great time with these guys. What a blast.

A fire in Danbury Township leveled 3 homes in the middle of the night. They were summer vacation homes, so no one was inside. I went out at noon to photograph some of the aftermath.
Thursday was the first day the Shirley Irene Ferry was running from the Marblehead mainland to Kelleys Island.

I had to shoot a couple high school play rehearsals tonight. They are what they are, but I did manage to make something I sorta like. I shot this frame as a couple of the actors were making their way from the back of the auditorium to the stage during a scene change or something.
And here we have the Register newsroom.
First assignment at the Register was at Back To The Wild wildlife rehab and nature education center in Castalia, Ohio, where an eagle was not on his best behavior for a big family group that was there for a tour.
I also learned today that when you hear an eagle scream in a movie or a TV show, they use a pre-recorded sound of a hawk instead. Apparently the noise an eagle makes is really whimpy and is not suitably intimidating enough for our national bird.

Drove up to Sandusky today to move into my new apartment and start my internship at the Sandusky Register. I showed up in Sandusky with flip flops and a short sleeve shirt on (because it was warm in in Athens) and it was 35 degrees and windy when I showed up.
Fellow Ohio University student Aaron Synder has a new website up and running called "Oh Snap Click." The goal of the site is to feature work by photographers that would otherwise go unseen. I think it has a lot of potential- I sorta think of as a little Burn Magazine and if he keeps getting a lot of submissions and interest in it, it could grow into a site/community like that.
With the United States economy in a downward spiral, the city of Wilmington, Ohio has been one of the many cities hit hard by the recession. In 2003, shipping company DHL bought the ABX Air hub in Wilmington with hopes of expanding their domestic shipping business. In May 2008, DHL announced plans to discontinue their domestic operations. Within a matter of months, DHL had eliminated thousands of jobs at the air park in Wilmington, where many people in the town and surrounding community had found steady work for decades. By the end of 2009, DHL's restructuring plan will result in upwards of 8,000 jobs being lost at the air park. This essay examines the people and places in the community of Wilmington, how it has been affected by job loss and how it is responding to the challenge.
